A Word

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.

What it means

Safety here is not a place but a nearness. To dwell with God is to live in His shadow, and the psalmist turns that truth into a spoken confession: my refuge, my fortress.

A psalm of protection, later quoted by the tempter to Jesus in the wilderness. Jesus answered from Deuteronomy: do not put the Lord to the test. Refuge is not a charm; it is trust.

Where it addresses you

  • You are afraid for your safety or the safety of those you love.

  • You want to stay close to God through a dangerous season.
