A Word

Then Nehemiah told them, Go and eat what is rich, drink what is sweet, and send portions to those who have nothing prepared, since today is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.

What it means

The people wept when they heard the Law read. Nehemiah tells them the right response to God’s word on this day is feasting, generosity, and joy, because that joy is what will hold them.

The wall has been rebuilt and Ezra reads the Law aloud for hours. The people weep in conviction; the leaders turn the day into a feast.

Where it addresses you

  • Conviction has left you heavy rather than glad.
