What it means

A promise to a people in exile, not a shortcut out of it. God’s plans are good, but they unfold over a long obedience, and the hope is real precisely because He knows the whole of it.

Jeremiah’s letter to the exiles: build houses, plant gardens, seek the welfare of the city. After seventy years, God will bring them home. Then this verse.
