What it means

God’s word is not soft counsel to be weighed against other voices. It burns and it breaks. Whatever is false in a prophet, or hard in a heart, does not survive contact with it.

Jeremiah 23 is God’s charge against prophets who spoke their own dreams as His word. Against their straw He sets the true thing: a word with the force of fire and hammer, which no counterfeit can imitate.
