A Word

Surely He took on our infirmities and carried our sorrows; yet we considered Him stricken by God, struck down and afflicted. But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.

What it means

The Servant suffers in our place. What was ours, infirmities, sorrows, transgressions, iniquities, was laid on Him; what was His, peace and healing, comes to us.

The fourth Servant Song, written some seven centuries before Christ. The New Testament applies it to Jesus, both to His healing ministry and to His cross.

Where it addresses you

  • You wonder whether God cares about your pain.

  • You need to ground your prayer for healing in what Christ has done.
